Thanks to those who were able to attend the club AGM last week, for those who couldn’t make it I’ve summarised the key points below.
Club Finances and Membership
In short the club made a small profit on a cash basis last year but not enough to cover any future expenditure on kit when it needs to be replaced. To make sure the club can cover expenses and break even this year we need to at least match the number of membership renewals as last year so if you haven’t done so already make sure you do.
It was agreed at the AGM to keep membership fees the same as 2016 and this provides you with insurance and allows the club to run the weekly junior sessions and put on events. (Having insurance is a legal requirement for windsurfing in Jersey and Harbours have been getting more active with their reminders in the last year: http://www.ports.je/JerseyCoastguard/Safety/Pages/WatersportsInsuranceRegistration.aspx)

The Friday Junior Sessions will begin this week at St Catherine’s from 4pm. These are reliant on volunteers and we’re always looking for more so if you have children who might like to learn windsurfing in the next year or two or who already take part in the junior sessions and you’d be willing to help out please contact Justin for details.
You may have noticed the new Jersey Windsurfing Group on Facebook which will be replacing the Jersey Windsurfing page. The idea behind this is it makes posts from group members more visible rather than just official posts showing on the front page. We’re hoping this will make it easier for members to communicate when they’re going windsurfing and encourage others to join them.
If you haven’t already follow the link to the group and request to join: Jersey Windsurfing Group
Committee Member Elections
The Committee for 2017 were elected at the AGM as follows:
President: Andy Hart
Treasurer: Mike Surcouf
Juniors: Justin Horton
Club Secretary: Ali Varrie (Ali will be taking over from Donna Atkinson and we’d like to reiterate our thanks for her work for the club over the years)
There will be club gear sale on Saturday 3rd of June, we’ll confirm the location once we know the weather forecast so that hopefully we can combine it with some slalom racing and maybe a BBQ on the beach if the weathers good.
The St Catherine’s summer evening series has started this week every Thursday and they have again offered to do a start for Kona racing. There will also be a Kona class in the Gorey Regatta (1-2 July) and the Jersey Regatta (15-17 September) so get the dates in your diary now.
My summary email has turned into a bit of an epic but as a final reminder don’t forget your membership renewals and hope to see you on the water soon.
