Jersey Oyster Company Windsurf Slalom Championships 2017

The 2017 Jersey Slalom Championships took place over the weekend again kindly sponsored by Jersey Oyster Company.

Saturday saw the club juniors competing for the Youth Slalom Championship shield in good winds but challenging sea conditions with an onshore chop and fair sized swell rolling into St Aubins Bay. Four races were completed with all sailors using club Kona boards and free to chose their own sail sizes to suit the conditions. Island Games team member Henry Horton came out in front to get his name on the trophy for the second year but didn’t have it all his own way with some very close starts by the final race.

1st – Henry Horton
2nd – Pete Raimbault
3rd – Jack Horton
4th – Felix Carnegie
5th – Will Holden

The Open Class Slalom Championships then followed on the Sunday with grey skies but slightly stronger winds than the day before. There are no equipment restrictions in the Open Class and most sailors chose their biggest sails to account for the gusty winds though board speeds in excess of 25kts were still seen out on the course. 5 races were completed in quick succession with Chris Le Masurier showing he still had his form from competing overseas during the summer and consistently finishing at the front of the fleet.

1st – Chris Le Masurier
2nd – Andy Hart
3rd – Adam Chester
4th – Rob Ayliffe
5th – Henry Horton
6th – Guillaume Begue
7th – Steve Melia
8th – Pete Carey

The club would like to thank Jersey Oyster Company for sponsoring, Sue Baudains for the photos and Mic Trehoral/RCIYC for providing support on the water both days.
