We will be holding the club AGM on Friday 12th May at SHYC starting at 8pm. A brief agenda will be posted on the club website ahead of the meeting. http://www.jerseywindsurfing.com/wp/
The meeting is open to all and please make an effort to join us if you can as this is your chance to have some input into how your club is run and any ideas you have will be welcome.
Hope to see you all on the 12th if not on the water beforehand.
Dear Sailors and Friends.
The Annual Atko Memorial will take place this Saturday from 11am at Le Braye Sipway.
It’s open to all, and the emphasis is for you to sail better than you ever have to impress the judges and win the coveted Atko Trophy.
A one hour expression session allows you to perform a few new moves, push your limits and be part of the best open sailing competition in the name of Ian Atkinson our friend and fellow inspirational windsurfer.
See you on the water. Good sailing and push your limits.
The long awaited ATKO MEMORIAL WAVE EXPRESSION SESSION will go ahead on Monday 2nd January in cold offshore conditions with a small swell if the forecast holds out.
Sailors will launch from Sands slipway from 1030 fired up with a new move in their mind.
Please come to support this event and push the sailors to their limits.
prize giving in Big Verns after the sailing.
Seasons Greetings Windsurfers
The forecast is good for some wind over the Christmas weekend and the temperatures are still quite warm for the time of year so assuming you’ve done all your Christmas shopping why not join us for a race, a rum and a mince pie on Saturday at Bel Royal from midday.
We’ll aim to run some slalom races and if enough people take part we’ll count it as a last chance to hold the Jersey Slalom Championships for 2016 (Hopefully that doesn’t jinx the wind).
Now’s also a good time for a reminder about next years membership – club membership runs to 31 December so will be for renewal from 1st January 2017. Not only does your membership allow the club to put on events for all members and help support the junior program but it is also provides you with insurance for windsurfing locally. Having insurance is a legal requirement in Jersey and the Coastguard and Harbours having been sending out more reminders recently so don’t get caught out uninsured if they decide to start checking or something unforeseen happens.
If you renew now you can do so for the same cost as 2016 however the fees will be reviewed at the club AGM to be held in the new year and may go up after that. Details are on the website and make sure to update your contact details at the same time: Membership
Jersey Windsurfing wishes you a merry Christmas and a windy New Year.
Dear Sailors and Friends
The Atko Memorial ‘Go big or go home’ wave and expression session is primed for this Saturday 10th December at 1000Hrs.
Sailors should be on standby for venue announcement 12 hours before .
Best wishes and HAPPY SAILING this season!
The Annual ATKO Memorial wave expression session will take part durring
Dec and January this season and is open to all.
With the theme of “Go big or go home” the emphasis will be on pushing your skills and trying new moves.
Judges will be given the brief to search out sailors who have sailed beyond their usual level, so it’s all up for grabs.
Just name your move and put a stamp on it!
Notice of competition will go out 24hours in advance. We are looking for a weekend or holiday to run with minimum 2 foot waves and 20 kts ave wind.
Check the website facebook and texts to membership for advance notice….get ready!
Please register to take part,
The Jersey Slalom Championships will take place tomorrow afternoon at Bel Royal.
The plan is for 3-5 short races on simple reaching courses, Mic Trehorel has offered to set a course for us so please be on the beach ready to go at 13:00.
Jersey Slalom Championships
Hope to see you all on the water tomorrow
We had some great racing for the Youth Class of the Jersey Slalom Championships a couple of weeks ago with Henry Horton being the first to get his name on the new Youth Slalom Championship trophy provided by the Jersey Oyster Company.
Unfortunately the Open Class had to be postponed due to light winds but conditions are looking good for next weekend so will be provisionally rescheduled for Saturday afternoon, 12 November. A new event page has been set up on Facebook where final time and location details will be confirmed: Jersey Slalom Championships
Don’t forget you can renew your club membership on the website which provides you with insurance which is a requirement to windsurf in Jersey and essential if you’re racing: Jersey Windsurfing Membership
Hope you all get to enjoy some of the wind this weekend.
Just a quick reminder that the Jersey Slalom Championships will take place this Saturday. Details will be confirmed as the forecast becomes firmer but it’s likely we’ll be racing from Bel Royal in the afternoon.
There are trophies provided by Jersey Oyster Company for both open and youth divisions (the youth division will race on Kona boards but don’t need Kona sails – get in touch if you’d like to borrow a club board).
This will be a great fun event for everyone even if you’re not a regular racer and don’t have the latest slalom gear.
Add yourself to the event Facebook page to make sure you get the latest details and so we can get an idea of numbers. Jersey Slalom Championships
Hope to see you on the water soon
