There’s been some great Kona racing the last few weekends first at the Guernsey Regatta then Jersey the week later. There was a huge variety of conditions and it was great to see some sailors new to Kona racing getting involved and especially to Steve and Ali for braving the trip to Guernsey and to Seb, Simon, Tim and Jonathan for coming over to Jersey.
The top prizes ultimately went to Guernsey sailors with Seb Lovell winning the Guernsey Regatta and UK Kona Nationals and Tim Laine winning the Jersey Regatta. The Jersey team will need some more training in time for next year’s regattas 🙂
Jersey Slalom Championships
Just a few weeks to go to the Jersey Slalom Championships on the 8th of October and your chance to get your name on the coveted Jersey Oyster Company Slalom trophy. There will be an Open and a Youth category and this year there will also be a Youth trophy kindly provided by Jersey Oyster Company. Hopefully we can encourage some of the Guernsey sailors to join us as well.
We will aim for 3-5 races on simple figure of eight reaching courses and will race whatever the weather conditions though the location and start time will be set based on the forecast nearer the time.
For the open class there will be no equipment restrictions whilst the Youth class will use Kona boards with any sail up to the maximum for their Kona weight range.
Prize Giving and Social
After the racing during the day we will have a prize giving and club social in the evening. Location and details are still to be finalised but we’d like to get as many of you along as possible so even if you can’t make the racing or can’t stay late please try to come along to support the racers and catch up with other windsurfers ahead of a hopefully windy autumn and winter.
Add yourself to the event page on Facebook to keep up to date with any announcements: Jersey Slalom Championships event page.
It is a requirement for windsurfers to be insured in Jersey and the Coastguard sent a reminder round recently along with a warning that there could be a fine of up to £2,000 of not.
All paid up club members are covered by the club insurance at great value and fees also go to running club events and junior sessions. See the Membership page.
Although board registration with Jersey Harbours is not a requirement for windsurfers registration with the voluntary coastguard scheme is free and recommended. See details on the Jersey Coastguard page.
Hope to see you all on the water soon.
