Jersey Windsurfing September Update

Hello Windsurfers

There’s been some great Kona racing the last few weekends first at the Guernsey Regatta then Jersey the week later. There was a huge variety of conditions and it was great to see some sailors new to Kona racing getting involved and especially to Steve and Ali for braving the trip to Guernsey and to Seb, Simon, Tim and Jonathan for coming over to Jersey.
Jersey Regatta2016

The top prizes ultimately went to Guernsey sailors with Seb Lovell winning the Guernsey Regatta and UK Kona Nationals and Tim Laine winning the Jersey Regatta. The Jersey team will need some more training in time for next year’s regattas 🙂

Upcoming Events
Jersey Slalom Championships
Just a few weeks to go to the Jersey Slalom Championships on the 8th of October and your chance to get your name on the coveted Jersey Oyster Company Slalom trophy. There will be an Open and a Youth category and this year there will also be a Youth trophy kindly provided by Jersey Oyster Company. Hopefully we can encourage some of the Guernsey sailors to join us as well.

We will aim for 3-5 races on simple figure of eight reaching courses and will race whatever the weather conditions though the location and start time will be set based on the forecast nearer the time.

For the open class there will be no equipment restrictions whilst the Youth class will use Kona boards with any sail up to the maximum for their Kona weight range.

Prize Giving and Social
After the racing during the day we will have a prize giving and club social in the evening. Location and details are still to be finalised but we’d like to get as many of you along as possible so even if you can’t make the racing or can’t stay late please try to come along to support the racers and catch up with other windsurfers ahead of a hopefully windy autumn and winter.

Add yourself to the event page on Facebook to keep up to date with any announcements: Jersey Slalom Championships event page.

Membership Reminder
It is a requirement for windsurfers to be insured in Jersey and the Coastguard sent a reminder round recently along with a warning that there could be a fine of up to £2,000 of not.
Coastguard reminder

All paid up club members are covered by the club insurance at great value and fees also go to running club events and junior sessions. See the Membership page.

Although board registration with Jersey Harbours is not a requirement for windsurfers registration with the voluntary coastguard scheme is free and recommended. See details on the Jersey Coastguard page.

Hope to see you all on the water soon.

Jersey Windsurfing August Slalom

Hello Windsurfers

Not wanting to speak to soon but it looks like we could be on for a windy weekend coming up so last weeks slalom racing will be rolled forward to Sunday 21st. These will be simple reaching courses open to all members and with no equipment restrictions so a really fun event and a great way to improve your sailing skills. (Make sure you’ve paid your membership fees for the year so your insured before you race – see below).

August weekend

Based on the current forecast we will meet at Bel Royal and aim to get started as soon as the tide drops off the slip way which should be 10:30-11:00. Any updates on timing or location will be posted on the club Facebook page: Jersey Windsurfing

The Jersey Slalom Championships are also not far away on the 8th October. Add yourself to the event page on Facebook so you don’t miss any of the details: Jersey Slalom Championships

Membership Reminder:
Don’t forget to renew your Jersey Windsurfing membership for 2016 if you haven’t so far. Remember not only does your membership fee support the club and allow us to put on events throughout the year, run weekly training sessions for the juniors through the summer and maintain the club equipment, it also provides members with 3rd party insurance and covers registration of your boards with Jersey Harbours, so well worth renewing your membership. Details on the club website: Jersey Windsurfing Association Membership

Hope to see you all on the water soon

Jersey Windsurfing upcoming events

Hello windsurfers

No slalom racing tomorrow due to the forecast but we’ll roll forward to next Sunday if it looks windy.

There are a couple of other events coming up though as both the Guernsey and Jersey regattas will have a Kona class for windsurfers at the start of next month.

The Guernsey regatta is first on 3 and 4th of September and incorporates the British Kona Nationals. Entries can be made online and there is a reduced entry fee if you enter before 26 August. This is your chance to be the first ever British Kona champion! http://www.gyc.org.gg/racing/racing-news/417-guernsey-regatta

For those interested in going over there is an opportunity for boards to be trailerd over with some of the catamarans, meaning sailors can either fly or travel as foot passangers on the ferry to save time and money. Please get in touch if you’re entering so we know how many boards need to be transported and can get organised.

The Jersey Regatta will then be the next weekend 9-11th September. Entry forms are on the website http://www.shyc.je/Jersey-Regatta/Race-Administration/

Hope to see you on the water soon.
