June’s Slalom Racing will be this Saturday 18th June. Based on the current forecast we will race at Bel Royal starting at 3pm. This will be confirmed on Friday evening. These will be simple reaching courses open to all members and with no equipment restrictions so a really fun event and a great way to improve your gybes and early planning skills.

Hope to see you all on the water soon.

Gorey Regatta and long distance event

Hello Windsurfers

The NOR and entry forms have been put up for the Gorey Regatta on the website: www.goreyregatta.org
Get your entries in quick and remember the club has a few Kona boards and rigs which can be borrowed, we just ask for a £15 contribution for the weekend to go towards maintanence.

We’ve also got more details for the long distance event on Saturday 25th.

Plan A will be a trip to the Ecrehous for a bbq. We will leave from St Catherine’s at midday, have a couple of hours on the Ecrehous then head back late afternoon as the tide turns.

Plan B if the wind direction is wrong for the Ecrehous will be a sail from St Aubins round to La Braye. Leaving at 11am for lunch at El Tico and then depending on the conditions we can either sail back or leave the boards and come back by rib and drive back to get the boards later.

Plan C if it’s too windy or rough to go offshore we will race around some of the fixed marks in St Aubins bay.

Safety equipment required for each windsurfer will be: wetsuit, buoyancy aid, orange smoke flare, tow line and a VHF or mobile phone in a waterproof case.

We’ll have a couple of ribs as support boats and potentially a larger motor cruiser if we go to the Ecrehous so there will be some space if you want to come for the trip but don’t want to windsurf.

If you want to come either windsurfing or on the support boats please can you let us know by the end of this week so we can confirm numbers.

Hope to see you all on the water soon.

Jersey Windsurfing June Update

Hello Windsurfers

Some great windsurfing conditions over the long weekend, I hope everyone had a chance to get out and enjoy the weather.

Events coming up in June:

The Kona Evening Series continues every Thursday at St Catherines starting at 7pm and the forecast is looking good for this week.

There will also be a Kona class at the Gorey Regatta on the 11th and 12th of June. This is a really fun event with a lot of history, the entry forms and sailing instructions aren’t available yet but check out the website: www.goreyregatta.org
If you’d like to borrow a Kona the club has some boards available with rigs which can be rented for £15 for a weekend to go towards their upkeep.

The weekly Junior Sessions start again on Friday the 17th June at Gorey.

The June Slalom Racing will be on Saturday 18th, 3rd time lucky to have enough wind this year, keep an eye out for details near the time.

And at the end of the month we have our Long Distance Event on Saturday the 25th June. The plan is for a longboard sail from Gorey to Les Ecrehous and back. Full details are still to be sorted but we expect we’ll need at least two support boats and sailors will have to contribute to the fuel costs.
If you’d like to take part please could you email back so that we can get an idea of numbers.

Jersey Windsurfing May Update

Hello Windsurfers

I hope you’ve been able to get out and enjoy the weather since it’s been warming up.

Unfortunately we didn’t get any wind for the April Slalom racing but we’ll try again this month. There was a good turnout at the gear sale and there were still some bargains available so post on the Facebook page if you’re looking for anything.

Upcoming Events:

The Kona Summer Series starts this Thursday at St Catherines. There will be a race every week at 7pm split into two 7 race series with 5 results to count from each. This will be for Kona boards and sail sizes should match the Kona weight divisions. Should be great training for the British Kona Nationals which will be in Guernsey in September. Get in touch if you’d like to use one of the club boards as these can be borrowed for a small donation to their upkeep.

Junior Sessions have also started and will run every Friday untill the Summer Holidays.

May Slalom Racing is set for Saturday 21th May. We plan to hold fun racing on reaching courses with no equipment restrictions but will only take place if there’s enough wind to plane. The forecast currently looks best for the morning so we will plan to start the first race at 9am at Bel Royal. This will be confirmed towards the end of the week once the forecast firms up so keep an eye out for the update.

We’re also planning to hold a Long Distance Event on Saturday 25th of June. The hope is for a longboard sail from Gorey to Les Ecrehous but if it’s too windy we’ll race around fixed marks in St Aubins Bay. Details will be confirmed nearer the time but make sure the dates in your diary if you’re interested. We’ll also need some volunteers for guard boats so please get in touch if you can help.
